Taking a toddler to Disney World is one of the most magical things you can do as a parent — and one of the most exhausting. The families who enjoy it most are the ones who plan for the reality of traveling with a small child, not the fantasy.
Toddlers need naps. The park will not accommodate this. Your strategy: plan a midday break back at the resort every single day. It feels counterintuitive when you're paying for park tickets, but the alternative — a meltdown at 2 p.m. in the middle of Fantasyland — is far more costly to your vacation.
Many popular rides have height requirements that will exclude toddlers. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train requires 38 inches. Space Mountain requires 44 inches. Tiana's Bayou Adventure requires 40 inches. Review the requirements before you arrive so you're not surprised — and so you can set expectations with your child.
Jim's Tip: Bring a stroller even if your toddler "doesn't need one." The parks are enormous and the days are long. A stroller is a nap vehicle, a snack station, and a sanity saver.
