Disney After Dark: The Hours Most Families Miss

By Jim · 4 min read

Most families with young children leave the parks by 8 or 9 p.m. This is understandable — and it means the parks are significantly less crowded for the guests who stay. The last hour before park close is often the best hour of the day.

Magic Kingdom After Dark

The Happily Ever After fireworks show over Cinderella Castle is one of the most spectacular experiences in all of Walt Disney World. The castle projection mapping, the fireworks, and the music combine into something genuinely moving. Stay for it. After the show, the crowds clear quickly and many attractions have minimal waits in the final 30–45 minutes before close.

EPCOT After Dark

EPCOT's IllumiNations (now replaced by Harmonious and then EPCOT Forever) is the park's signature nighttime spectacular. The World Showcase at night — lit up, quieter, with the lagoon reflecting the lights — is one of the most beautiful environments in any theme park.

Hollywood Studios After Dark

Galaxy's Edge at night is extraordinary. The neon signs, the ambient sounds, the glow of Batuu — it's a completely different experience from the daytime. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run often has shorter waits in the final hour of the evening.

Animal Kingdom After Dark

Pandora — The World of Avatar glows bioluminescent blue at night. If you visit Animal Kingdom during evening hours, Pandora after dark is the reason. Flight of Passage wait times are often shorter in the evening than during the day.
